Dear Pumpkin – 8 months

Sweet girl,

You’re eight months old! WHAT?!? (And since I’m finally getting around to posting this, you’re almost 9 months old! But I’m going with my word of the year & giving myself grace on this one!)

You are still my little Sunshine girl – almost always happy!! Unless you don’t get what you want or your sister is hugging or kissing you too much. Then you definitely make sure we hear about it. I don’t think I’m going to have to worry about you standing up for yourself, little one, and that makes me happy.

You’re constantly on the move and have figured out how to climb over the toy bins we put in the way to try to block you into the couch area.

You love to eat & there hasn’t really been anything that you haven’t liked so far. You’ve recently decided that you don’t like to have your diaper changed or your clothes changed, so we have to give you toys on the changing pad to keep you distracted, so this next image looks pretty familiar!

You’ve started sitting up with your feet kicked back by the sides of your bottom, and when you get excited you’ll bounce up and down like that. It’s like the joy just radiates out of you, and I have to say that’s one of my favorite habits of yours!

You still crack me up daily with your facial expressions or the noises you’ll make. You have gotten pretty good at repeating certain sounds back to me, with “ma” & “bop/bob” being your favorites.

You also started playing peek-a-boo which is so much fun! You love to grab a toy, your blanket, or your clothes (especially when getting your diaper changed), and pull them over your face. The dimpled grin & little giggles I get when you throw your arms down away from your face and I say “peek-a-boo!” are the best.

As you turned 8 months, you still don’t have any teeth yet, but we know they’re on the way soon since you are constantly chewing those little fingers of yours!

Pumpkin, I love you so so so so much sweet girl. I am so thankful that I get to be your mama and watch you learn and grow each and every day. You’re a blessing for our family and I couldn’t imagine life without you! Thank you for the laughter and joy you bring me, and thank you for making my heart even bigger than I ever thought possible.

Life Lessons from Library Time with Peanut

While I am in Houston with the girls for a few days to take sweet Quinn’s cake smash photos & look at some houses, I stole away with Peanut to story time at the library.

Watching her sit there in the midst of all of the other little kids, getting completely absorbed into the story, I couldn’t help but smile. My biggest girl seems to be a book-lover, and that makes this mama happy. It was also really interesting to watch her sit back and watch as the other kids stood up and danced the hokey-pokey and sang Twinkle, Twinkle.

I was a little surprised that my outgoing girl didn’t jump right in to sing and dance along, as she’s sooooo full of personality. But the more I thought about it, I realized she’s so much like me (despite looking so much like her daddy!).

In a new place or situation, I tend to sit back and watch at first. I’m not normally the first to jump right in or strike up a conversation with someone I don’t know. Sure, when it’s orientation I can turn it “on”, but that’s also zone I’m familiar with.

As I sat there wishing my sweet girl would join in on the fun, it made me think about how I’m going to need to push myself to just jump right in as we move to Houston. I’m going to have to push myself to reach out to other creatives. I’m going to have to push myself to join in on networking events – and push myself to really network & talk to people rather than just hanging out by the food.

So Peanut, here’s to us jumping in hokey-pokey style as we start a new chapter in Houston. And here’s to more mommy-daughter dates to the library!!

Dear Pumpkin – 7 Months

Sweet girl,

You are seven months old… seven! And my goodness are you making this month count!

You’ve gotten a lot better about naps times in your crib, but sometimes still give us a little trouble during the afternoon nap. You’re starting to eat more foods including oatmeal cereal and some veggies, and aside from some pretty funny faces you’ve seemed to like everything for the most part.

A big development is that you’re officially CRAWLING! And little one, you love to move. You sometimes look like a little side-winder the way you kick your legs forward but slightly to the side. You also have a tendency of crawling forward a bit, and then plopping down on one side, legs kicked out, usually with your arm back by your hip – looking like you’re striking a little pose – and Pumpkin, it just cracks me up!

You seemed to really enjoy making me WORK taking your photos this month! You wouldn’t sit still for more than about 2.3 seconds!

You are still a huge fan of screaming. And you’ve got some lungs on you, sweet girl. Sometimes it’s cute/funny, and sometimes I wish I knew how to get you to stop. But at least for the vast majority of time, you’re screaming just cause you’re happy! Maybe with your sister talking so much, that’s your way to try to keep up at this point!

You are starting to get more and more determined & showing that you know what you want. Which oftentimes is to grab/pull my hair, or a necklace, or my drink. Sometimes it frustrates you when you can’t do what you want, but you also tend to usually laugh when I quickly pull my hair/necklace away and tell you it’s not for you. Probably not the smartest thing on my part to make that a game for you, but I just can’t help it when it makes you break out into that sweet, dimpled grin of yours.

Still no teeth yet, although you’re CONSTANTLY chewing on your index finger.

Sunshine girl, your joy is still just as contagious as always. Seeing your whole face light up and those dimples tucking in to your cheeks makes my heart happy in ways I can’t even describe.

This is a pretty common view for me these days, and I hope I never, ever forget it. I hope this image comes to mind as you walk a graduation stage, walk down a wedding aisle, or walk over the doorway into a new home or office. I hope I always remember these sweet days when things are simple and you want to be as near to me as possible.

I love you to the moon and back, Pumpkin!
