Movie Challenge – February 2016

His Pick:

Pixels

Pixels

This honestly wasn’t one of my favorites, but we were split on this one because Max like it. There were a few funny parts, but overall it really wasn’t my thing. (Maybe I should have let Max write the review on this one.. haha.)

My Pick:

The Water Diviner

WaterDiviner

This one we both liked. There were some parts that were really hard to watch, but it was worth it. Not quite up to Gladiator status as far as Russell Crowe films go, but I did enjoy it. I appreciate the way it speaks to the power of a parent’s love, and how no distance is too far to go for your children. The ending felt a little abrupt for me, but it’s still worth the watch.

Movie Challenge – January 2016

It was good getting back to the movie challenge this month! Not our best lineup, but it wasn’t the worst either. Definitely an eclectic mix of films though – which I love!

His Pick:

Ant Man

Even though Max has gotten me into the Marvel movies, I really wasn’t all that excited about this one. I do like Paul Rudd, so that was about it when it came to thinking I might like this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would, and I have to saw that Michael Peña might have been my favorite! If you’re into the Marvel movies but don’t think this one has the pull that Captain America, Thor or Iron Man have, I’d recommend at least giving it a try!

My Pick:

Inside Out

O my goodness, y’all. I loved this movie. I didn’t really know what to expect other than having hopes for this because I generally enjoy Disney Pixar work, but this was even better than I would have imagined! I felt a little ridiculous that I got slightly emotional watching this thinking about Peanut and Pumpkin going through this phase, but after the movie ended Max told me felt the same way! I’d definitely recommend this one!

Our Pick:

Bernie

Bernie.jpg

We chose this one after talking with friends about the real-life story that played out here in East Texas. I wouldn’t say this one is a favorite – I don’t think either Max or I would have been all that entertained/interested in it if it wasn’t a true story set near here, and knowing that a friend of ours actually knew Bernie. Jack Black did a great job, but this isn’t one I’d watch again. Max enjoyed it more than I did and said it wasn’t bad, but didn’t even end up staying awake till the end… (to his credit though, he did go back and watch the end the next day).

Movie Challenge – November 2015

I am a little behind on posting this, but better late than never! And in keeping with the trend of not quite being on top of things, there’s only two movies for last month..

His Pick:

Blackhatblackhat

I wouldn’t say this was my favorite crime/thriller movie, but it wasn’t bad. There were a few moments that were pretty far-fetched and Max had to keep telling me to quit being so logical, but it was still entertaining. And let’s be honest here, y’all. I got to spend time looking at Chris Hemsworth. Enough said.

Our Pick:

Black or White
Black or whiteThis pick was one that neither of us really wanted all that much, but over Thanksgiving break we realized we hadn’t watched any movies yet and there wasn’t much of anything catching our attention on Netflix. Somehow we landed on this one (probably mostly because of Kevin Costner). I fully expected Max to fall asleep no more than about 30 minutes into the movie, or that we’d make it half way and have to finish watching it the next day, but we ended up watching the whole thing that night. A little predictable, a little tough to watch at times, but it was alright overall.
