Run Your Race

The comparison monster is real, y’all. It’s real, it’s sneaky and it’s persistent.

With social media and the internet literally at our fingertips all day, everyday, it’s hard to block out all of those images of perfection and feel like you’re caught somewhere right around the starting line as everyone else has the finish line in sight.

But the truth is, there is no finish line.

There is no perfection.

Let that sink in for a second…. I’ll wait.

What you’re looking at? It may be the starting line for that person. It may look like everything you’ve ever wanted, but you don’t know the struggle that goes into putting that “reality” out there everyday. It’s not the finish line.

What you have to focus on is running your own race. Stay in your lane and compete against only yourself. Be better than you were last year. Better than you were last week. Better than you were yesterday. Just run your race.

And better yet? Find a way to find the joy in the running.

  1. This is a great reminder for me! Especially just starting out its easy to compare to others who have been in the business for years! Just keep doing what I can to be better than yesterday!

    • I couldn’t agree more, Kara! It’s so hard to make yourself remember all the years & work that have gone into the product that you see when you’re following other photographers. I am sure you’re doing an amazing job!!
